10/30/2009 8:59 PM

San Antonio, TX – The Texas Stars (6-2-0-2, 14 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (6-4-2-0, 14 points) 3-0 on Friday night in front of 4,003 at AT&T Center. Stars’ goalie Brent Krahn made 34 saves for his first shutout of the season and the 14th of his career. Texas forwards Sergei Korostin, Francis Wathier and Greg Rallo each scored as the team moved into a first-place tie in the West Division with San Antonio. Defensemen Brad Lukowich and Ivan Vishnevskiy both had two assists as the Stars improved to 3-1-0-1 on the road this season. Rampage goalie Al Montoya took the loss with 25 saves. Texas will host Chicago at 7:00 pm at Cedar Park Center on Saturday night.

Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of power-play goals in the first period. Fresh off a stint in the NHL with Dallas, Francis Wathier netted his third goal of the season at 16:33. Wathier deflected a shot from the point by defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy for the 1-0 lead. With only 25 seconds left in the period, Texas doubled its lead with a goal by Greg Rallo. Vishnevskiy carried the puck into the corner and centered to the San Antonio net. Rallo scored his fourth goal of the season, beating Rampage goalie Al Montoya with a redirection for the 2-0 Stars lead. Defenseman Brad Lukowich assisted on both first-period goals.

The Stars added to their lead in the second period for a 3-0 advantage. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin found forward Sergei Korostin alone in front of the San Antonio net. Korostin snapped a wrist shot past Montoya for his team-leading fifth goal of the year at 8:42 of the period.
