TEXAS TAKES OVER FIRST PLACE WITH A 2-1 SHOOTOUT WIN IN PEORIA
Stars Take Five-Game Winning Streak to Milwaukee on Tuesday at 7:00 PM

Peoria, IL – The Texas Stars (28-13-3-4, 63 points) defeated the Peoria Rivermen (23-18-1-5, 52 points) 2-1 in a shootout on Sunday night in front of 3,475 fans at Carver Arena. Center Perttu Lindgren gave the Stars their fifth straight win, ending a sudden death shootout with the decisive goal in the extra session. Texas goalie Todd Ford (4-0-1) made 35 saves in regulation and stopped three of five shootout attempts to seal the victory. With the win, Texas moves into sole possession of first place in the West Division. Texas forward Travis Morin scored the team’s lone goal in regulation, as the Stars extended their point streak to eight games (7-0-1-0). Peoria goalie Hannu Toivonen (9-10-2) stopped 22 Texas shots in regulation and two of five attempts in the shootout defeat. The Stars travel to Milwaukee for a game against the Admirals on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

The two team traded goals in the first period, as Peoria struck for the opening goal on its second power play of the night. Rivermen forward Julian Talbot found Nicholas Drazenovic in front of the Texas Stars net. Drazenovic beat Texas goalie Todd Ford on the blocker side for his 12th goal of the year and a 1-0 Peoria lead at 16:07. Despite getting outshot 9-2 in the first period, the Stars were able to tie the game prior to the end of the opening frame. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin stole the puck in the Peoria zone and feathered a pass to the high slot for Travis Morin. The Stars forward snapped a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Peoria goalie Hannu Toivonen for his 11th of the year and a 1-1 tie at 18:58.

After two scoreless periods and overtime, the teams would head to a shootout. Defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy, forwards Colton Sceviour and Lindgren each scored for Texas in the shootout. Peoria’s Pascal Pelletier and Nicholas Drazanovic scored for the Rivermen in the shootout.

The Texas Stars travels to Milwaukee for a game against the Admirals at 7:00 PM on Tuesday. The Stars return to Cedar Park Center for back-to-back games against the Peoria on Friday, February 5th at 7:30 PM and on Saturday, February 6th, at 7:00 PM. On Friday, the first 3,000 fans receive a Texas Stars license plate cover. On Friday, Cedar Park Center will sell $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. During Saturday’s game, the first 3,000 fans will receive Texas Stars pennants. Fans may purchase the State Farm Family four-pack (four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs for $44).
