TEXAS HOLDS OFF HOUSTON IN 3-2 WIN
Stars Continue the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff in Houston on Saturday at 7:35 PM

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (32-21-3-4, 71 points) defeated the Houston Aeros (28-26-6-1, 63 points) 3-2 on Friday night in front of a near-capacity crowd of 6,510 fans at Cedar Park Center. Texas built a 3-0 lead and held off Houston for the one-goal win. Forwards Mathieu Beaudoin, Travis Morin and Sergei Korostin each scored a goal in the Stars’ sixth win against the Aeros in the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff. Texas defenseman Garrett Stafford and Andrew Hutchinson both tallied two assists, as Texas improved to 17-10-1-2 at home. Stars goalie Matt Climie (15-14-3) made 26 saves in the win. Houston goalie Barry Brust (6-6-0) stopped 34 Texas shots in the defeat. The Stars will play at Houston on Saturday night at 7:35 pm.

The Stars opened the scoring with a goal at 10:32 of the first period, taking a 1-0 lead. Stars right wing Mathieu Beaudoin found a rebound in front of the net and sent a backhanded shot past Houston goalie Barry Brust. Defensemen Andrew Hutchinson and Garrett Stafford recorded assists on Beaudoin’s 15th goal of the year. Just 2:18 later, the Stars struck on the power play again at 12:50. Texas center Travis Morin increased the lead to 2-0. Morin fired in a rebound past Brust from the left-wing circle for his 15th goal of the season. Hutchinson and Stafford each tallied assists on the team’s second goal of the night.

In the second period, Stars right wing Sergei Korostin scored at 8:47 after picking up a rebound in the Aeros crease. Korostin’s 12th goal of the year extended the Stars lead to 3-0. Aaron Gagnon and Colton Scevior both assisted the goal. Houston defenseman Jamie Fraser broke the Aeros’ silence at 10:03, jamming the puck past Stars goalie Matt Climie in the crease for a 3-1 score. Houston cut the Stars’ lead to 3-2 at 15:13 of the middle period after center Cody Almond sent a wrist shot from the left-wing circle past Climie on the gloveside.

Texas will continue the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff on Saturday at 7:35 PM in Houston on February 27th. Fans may view the game on FSN Southwest. On Sunday, the Stars wrap up their three-games-in-three-nights weekend with the San Antonio Rampage at 5:00 PM at Cedar Park Center. Fans may purchase a $20.00 terrace level ticket for the game that includes an all-you-can eat pass for nachos, hot dogs, peanuts and soft drinks. FSN Southwest will also broadcast the game on Sunday, February 28th. All games can be heard on the Stars flagship station ESPNAustin 104.9 FM “The Horn” or ESPNAustin 1530-AM.
