TEXAS FALLS TO PEORIA 5-3
Stars Continue Four-Game Road Trip Saturday in Chicago

Peoria, IL – The Texas Stars (3-4-0-0, 6 points) were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen (3-3-1-1, 8 points) 5-3 in front of 3,074 at Carver Arena on Thursday night. Peoria left wing Brett Sterling scored his second goal of the night with 6:45 left in the third period, breaking a 3-3 tie and propelling the Rivermen to victory. The Stars erased a 3-0 deficit in the second period with three goals in the back half of the middle frame. Texas forward Tomas Vincour and defenseman Jordie Benn each scored in the loss, as Texas fell to 1-2-0-0 on the road this season. Rookie Matt Fraser continued his torrid pace, scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the year. Peoria goalie Ben Bishop (3-2-1) made 31 saves in the win. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (2-3-0) stopped 28 shots in the defeat. The Stars will play at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday night at Allstate Arena in Chicago.

Peoria broke a scoreless tie at 11:07 of the first period. Rivermen center Brett Sonne picked up a rebound in the slot and scored his first goal of the season. Defensemen Ian Cole and Danny Syvret each had an assist on the goal that gave Peoria a 1-0 lead. The Rivermen made it 2-0 at 16:17 off Brett Sterling’s fourth goal of the season. Center T.J. Hensick played the puck in the face-off circle to Sterling, who snapped a wrist shot over the shoulder of Stars goalie Richard Bachman.

Peoria expanded its lead to 3-0 just 47 seconds into the second period. Rivermen forward Derek Nesbitt found a rebound in the Texas crease and pushed in his second goal of the season. The Stars mounted a comeback with two goals in a 2:01 span. Texas trimmed the Peoria lead to 3-1 after Tomas Vincour scored his third goal of the year at 10:18. Stars forwards Colton Sceviour and Francis Wathier each had an assist on the team’s first power-play goal of the night. Texas received its second goal of the night two minutes later at 12:19. Travis Morin found defenseman Jordie Benn at the point, who floated a wrist shot through the defense and past Peoria goalie Ben Bishop for his second goal of the year. Texas tied the game 3-3 with a power-play at the buzzer. Raymond Sawada slipped a pass to the front of the Peoria net and Matt Fraser finished the play with his seventh goal of the year at 19:59. Defenseman Dan Spang added an assist on the team’s second power-play goal of the night.

Peoria moved back in front at 13:15 of the third period. Sterling beat Texas goalie Richard Bachman on the stick side for his second goal of the night and a 4-3 lead for the Rivermen. Peoria’s Anthony Nigro added an empty-net goal with 24 seconds remaining for the 5-3 final.

Texas continues a four-game road trip in Chicago on Saturday, October 29th at 7:00 P.M. The Stars will make one more stop in Milwaukee to conclude the trip. Texas returns home on Thursday, November 3rd for a 7:30 P.M. faceoff against the Toronto Marlies. Thursday is a 3-2-1 night, featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs.
