Stars Travel to San Antonio on Friday for 7:00 PM Game

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (36-22-3-4, 79 Points) defeated the Peoria Rivermen (30-27-2-6, 68 Points) 3-2 on Wednesday night in front of 3,909 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars center Aaron Gagnon broke the 2-2 tie at 5:26 of the third period, leading Texas to its third win against the Rivermen this year. Colton Sceviour and Francis Wathier also scored, as Texas improved to 20-11-1-2 at Cedar Park Center. Texas goalie Brent Krahn (11-2-0) stopped 29 of 31 Rivermen shots in the victory. Peoria goalie Joe Fallon (16-12-1) made 20 saves in the loss. Texas travels to San Antonio to take on the Rampage at 7:00 PM this Friday.

The Rivermen opened the scoring at 9:11 of the first period, taking a 1-0 lead. Peoria defenseman Justin Fletcher received a pass from Lars Eller to the top of the left-wing circle and powered a shot past Texas goalie Brent Krahn on the gloveside. The Stars countered with 2:51 left in the period, tying the game 1-1. Right wing Colton Sceviour scored on a breakaway pass from defenseman Dan Jancevski, sending a backhanded shot through the legs of Peoria goalie Joe Fallon. Sceviour’s seventh goal of the season was the team’s third shorthanded goal this year.

Peoria went ahead 2-1 with a power-play goal in the second period. Winger Pascal Pelletier sent a backhanded shot into the net after finding a rebound from Derek Armstrong’s shot. Pelletier’s 13th goal of the year came at 5:21. Texas tied the game 2-2 with a power-play goal just 1:33 later. Winger Francis Wathier scored from behind the goal-line, bouncing the puck off of Fallon’s shoulder. Maxime Fortunus and Aaron Gagnon tallied assists on Wathier’s 12th goal of the year.

The Stars broke the 2-2 tie at 5:26 of the third period, taking a 3-2 lead. Center Aaron Gagnon found a rebound in front of the Peoria net and sent a shot past Fallon. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson and Wathier each added an assist on Gagnon’s game-winning tally, his 18th goal this season.

The Stars travel to San Antonio to take on the Rampage on Friday, March 12th at 7:00 PM as the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff continues. Texas will host the Rampage in a rematch at home on Saturday, March 13th at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, the first 2,000 fans receive a Texas Stars pet leash. Also, the State Farm Family 4-Pack will be available to fans and includes four tickets, four hotdogs and four sodas for $44.00. The Stars also host the Milwaukee Admirals on Thursday, March 18th at 7:30 PM. On Thursday, fans will have the opportunity to purchase a $20.00 terrace-level ticket, which includes All-You-Can-Eat soda, popcorn, hotdogs, peanuts and nachos. All games can be heard on the Stars flagship station ESPNAustin 104.9 FM “The Horn” or ESPNAustin 1530-AM.
