Texas Stars Expand First Place Lead


Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (8-2-0-2, 18 points) defeated the Houston Aeros (6-7-0-0, 12 points) 3-1 on Sunday night at Cedar Park Center. Texas forward Greg Rallo, Mathieu Beaudoin and Travis Morin each scored as the Stars expanded their first place lead in the West Division to four points over second place San Antonio. Texas goalie Matt Climie made 27 saves, improving to 3-1-0-2 on the season. Houston goalie Wade Dubilewicz stopped 25 of 27 Stars shots in the defeat. Texas will host Manitoba on Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 7:00 pm.

After a scoreless first period, the Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of unanswered goals less than three minutes apart. Texas worked the puck deep in the Houston zone and right wing Colton Sceviour snapped a shot to the net that was deflected by Aero’s goalie Wade Dubielewicz. The rebound popped up and was swatted in mid-air by winger Travis Morin. The Stars forward netted his first goal of the season at 7:55, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. Just past the halfway point of the period, the Stars struck again. A loose rebound squirted to Greg Rallo in the Houston crease. Rallo snapped a shot into the back of the Aeros net at 10:04, extending the Stars lead to 2-0. The Aero’s Brandon Rogers cut the Texas lead in half before the end of the period. Rogers scored off a loose puck turnover in the Stars zone, beating goalie Matt Climie at 11:13 for the 2-1 score.

In the third period, Mathieu Beaudoin scored the empty-net goal with two seconds remaining for the final score of 3-1.

Prior to the game, Texas announced that goalie Charlie Effinger has been released.

The Stars will host the Manitoba Moose on Friday, November 6th at 7:30 pm and on Saturday, November 7th at 7:00 pm. The first 2,000 fans to the game on November 6th receive a Texas Stars rally towel and may purchase $2.00 domestic drafts. On Saturday November 7th, the Stars salute the armed forces with Military Night. The first 2,000 fans receive a Texas Stars draw-string bag and the Cedar Park Center will provide $1.00 hot dogs.
