TEXAS CALLS UP GAZDIC FROM IDAHO
Texas Plays in Houston on Friday at 7:35 PM


Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars announced Wednesday that the team has recalled left wing Luke Gazdic from the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

Gazdic returns to Texas after a four-game stint with the Stars’ ECHL Affiliate in Idaho, where he posted a goal and an assist. Gazdic also added a +4 and ten penalty minutes. He was assigned to Idaho on Dec. 8, after playing in 17 games for Texas, scoring a goal and racking up a team-high 55 penalty minutes. The rugged winger ranked in the top ten for penalty minutes among all AHL rookies at the time of his recall.

Gazdic played in two games with Idaho (ECHL) after completing his junior eligibility in April of 2009. The rookie forward scored a goal and compiled 14 penalty minutes with the Steelheads last spring. The 6-foot-3, 228-pound forward played the last three seasons with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Toronto, ON native scored 42 goals and added 30 assists for 72 points in 188 OHL games. The rugged winger was among the team leaders each year in penalty minutes, finishing with 407 penalty minutes for his junior career.

The 21-year old was drafted by the Dallas Stars (#172 overall) in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Texas will play a road game in Houston on Friday, Dec. 18 at 7:35 PM. Texas will return home to host Grand Rapids on Saturday, Dec.19 at 7:00 PM. On the 19th, the first 3,000 fans receive a Texas Stars Christmas Ornament. The team will hold its first Teddy Bear Toss, where fans may bring stuffed animals to throw on the ice to benefit the Blue Santa program. The Stars will travel to San Antonio on Sunday, Dec.27 to play the Rampage at 3:00 PM. Texas returns to Cedar Park to take on Syracuse on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 PM.
