Texas Stars Host Hamilton at 7:00 pm on Saturday

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 5-3 on Friday night in front of 4,928 fans at the Cedar Park Center. Center Warren Peters scored twice as the Stars improved to 3-1-0-0 at home this season. Texas forwards Greg Rallo, Francis Wathier and Sergei Korostin also scored in the victory. Lake Erie’s Marty Sertich, Chris Durno and Darren Haydar each scored third-period goals. Stars’ goalie Brent Krahn stopped 30 of 33 Lake Erie shots for the win. Monsters’ goalie Trevor Cann made 31 saves in the loss. Texas will host Hamilton at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 24th.

Despite getting outshot 11-5 in the first period, Texas ended the opening frame with a 1-0 lead. While on the power play, Stars winger Greg Rallo muscled the puck to the Lake Erie net. Monsters’ goalie Trevor Cann made the initial save, but Texas forward Warren Peters scored his first goal of the season off the rebound. Center Aaron Gagnon picked up the second assist on the play at 9:45, giving the Stars a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

In the second period, Texas expanded the lead to 2-0 at 11:50 with the second power-play goal of the night. Forward Sergei Korostin deflected a Brad Lukowich shot from the point, beating Cann and scoring his fourth goal of the season. The Stars made it 3-0 with 4:21 remaining in the middle period. Right wing Greg Rallo snapped a shot from the right point, beating Cann glove side for his third goal of the season and a three-goal Texas lead after two periods. Texas outshot Lake Erie 17-12 in the second period.

Texas’ Francis Wathier scored the team’s third power-play goal of the night just 3:10 into the third period. Lake Erie got on the board nearly six minutes later with a goal from center Marty Sertich. Less than two minutes later, the Monsters’ Chris Durno cut the Texas lead in half with his sixth goal of the season at 13:55. Monsters’ forward Darren Haydar scored his third goal of the season with 3:33 remaining in the game. Haydar’s power-play goal pulled the Monsters within a goal at 4-3. Texas center Warren Peters scored his second goal of the night with an empty-netter at 19:58, sealing the 5-3 win over Lake Erie.

Texas concludes a three-game home stand on Saturday, October 24th, hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:00 pm. State Farm presents the Family Four Pack Saturday, including four hockey tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs for $44.00. The first 2,000 fans to the game on Saturday receive a Texas Stars Sports bottle. Texas will play in San Antonio on Friday, October 30th, before returning home for game on Saturday, October 31st and Sunday November 1st.
