Stars Travel to Manitoba for Back-to-Back Games

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (20-11-2-2, 45 points) were defeated by the Syracuse Crunch (11-18-3-2, 27 points) 4-3 Tuesday night in front of 6,483 fans at Cedar Park Center. The Crunch scored twice and held the Stars scoreless for the entire shootout, squeaking out a one-goal victory. Syracuse forward Jared Aulin scored two goals, helping the Crunch earn their third win on the road this season. Stars defenseman Andrew Hutchinson tallied two points with a goal and an assist in the loss. Texas goalie Matt Climie (9-10-2) stopped 28 Crunch shots in regulation and two of four in the shootout. Syracuse goalie Kevin Lalande (7-8-0) made 25 saves in regulation and all four attempts in the shootout for the win. The Stars will travel to Manitoba to play the Moose on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 7:30 PM.

In the first period, Crunch center Jared Aulin scored a pair of goals just 16 seconds apart. Aulin received a pass from Thomas Kana in the slot and shot the puck past Stars goalie Matt Climie at 4:49. Aulin’s second goal bounced off the left goalpost and past Climie at 5:05, extending the Crunch lead to 2-0. Texas defenseman Andrew Hutchinson cut the Syracuse lead in half at 17:10. Hutchinson carried the puck through center and fired a long wristshot past Kevin Lalande, beating him gloveside. The defenseman’s third goal of the year was assisted by defenseman Brad Lukowich.

The Stars tied the game 2-2 with 3:03 left in the second period. Forward Warren Peters scored off a rebound in the crease, picking up his 11th goal of the season. Greg Rallo and Andrew Hutchinson assisted Peters’ goal.

Syracuse regained the lead at 6:12 of the third period. Winger Thomas Kana scored in the crease for a 3-2 lead. Stars center Travis Morin tied the game 3-3 at 10:45, his third goal of the year. Lalande misplayed the puck and Morin took advantage of an open net, scoring from the left-wing circle. Neither team scored the rest of the period.

After a scoreless overtime, the teams would decide the game’s outcome in a shootout. Crunch defenseman Brendan Bell and Jared Aulin both scored on Matt Climie in the shootout for a 4-3 Syracuse win over Texas. Lalande stopped all four Texas attempts in the shootout to secure the win.
