Statesman Article: Texas Stars rookie Richard Bachman holds up in first AHL season
CEDAR PARK — When Richard Bachman situates himself between the pipes as the Texas Stars' rookie goalie Thursday night to start their second straight playoff run, he'll reach back for some experience he first accumulated as a youngster in upstate New York.

As a catcher.

In truth, this smallish, native Coloradoan who might reach 6 feet in his skates loved baseball before he gravitated full-time to hockey.

"I was big into baseball," he said Tuesday after a long workout at the Cedar Park Center, in preparation for Thursday's opener in the AHL West Division semifinals against Milwaukee. "I guess it's something about having a hard object come at me. Just something in my head when a puck or a ball comes at me, and I have to protect my face."
