Texas Returns Home Thursday to Host Toronto

Milwaukee, WI – The Texas Stars (4-5-0-0, 8 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (5-2-0-1, 11 points) 5-3 at the Bradley Center on Sunday afternoon. Texas right wing Tomas Vincour blasted a one-timer past Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith with 3:35 remaining in regulation to break a 3-3 tie and put the Stars in the lead for good. Texas forward Raymond Sawada was instrumental in the club’s second road win of the year, finishing with a goal and two assists. Travis Morin and Francis Wathier also added tallies as the Stars finished up their four-game road trip 2-2-0-0. Rookie Matt Fraser scored his team-leading eight goal of the year and defenseman Philip Larsen added two assists in the victory. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (3-3-0) stopped 22 Admirals’ shots in the win, while Jeremy Smith (4-1-1) suffered the loss with 25 saves on 29 shots. The Stars return home to host Toronto at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday at the Cedar Park Center.

Milwaukee opened the scoring early in the first period, as defenseman Ryan Ellis wired a slapshot from the right point, through traffic and past Stars goalie Richard Bachman at 2:23. Mark Van Guilder and Gabriel Bourque each had an assist on Ellis’ second goal of the year, giving the Admirals a 1-0 lead. Texas answered back with a power-play goal at 18:54 by Raymond Sawada. Defenseman Jordie Benn sprung Sawada over the Milwaukee blueline and the Stars right wing snapped a wrist shot past the glove of Admirals goalie Jeremy Smith for his third goal of the year and a 1-1 tie. Bachman picked up his second assist of the season on the Stars first goal of the night. The Admirals would regain the lead prior to the end of the period. Van Guilder slipped the puck behind Bachman at 19:03 for the 2-1 Milwaukee lead. Ellis and Bourque each had an assist on the play.

In the second period, the Stars tied the game 2:20 into the middle frame. Rookie Matt Fraser scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year for a 2-2 score. Sawada had the lone assist on the play. Texas claimed its first lead of the game 1:56 later with a power-play goal by Travis Morin. Philip Larsen and Fraser each had an assist on Morin’s third goal of the year, giving the Stars a 3-2 lead at 4:14. The Admirals pulled even with Texas at 7:02, tying the game 3-3. Defenseman Victor Bartley fired the puck towards the Stars net and forward Zach Stortini tipped it for his first goal of the season.

The two teams stayed tied throughout the bulk of the third period before the Stars pushed in front with 3:35 left on the clock. Center Ryan Garbutt dropped off a pass at the top of the right-wing circle for Tomas Vincour. The Stars winger blasted a one-timer past Jeremy Smith for his fifth goal of the year and a 4-3 Texas lead at 16:25. Left wing Francis Wathier sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:01 for the 5-3 final.

Texas returns home on Thursday, November 3rd for a 7:30 P.M. faceoff against the Toronto Marlies. Thursday is a 3-2-1 night, featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs.
