Texas Hosts Houston on Friday, October 14th at 7:30 P.M.

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (1-0-0-0, 2 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (0-1-0-0, 0 points) 7-0 in front of 6,295 fans on Sunday night at Cedar Park Center. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (1-0-0) stopped all 21 shots faced for his first shutout of the year. Four Texas skaters had multi-point nights as the team posted seven goals on Opening Night. Left wing Matt Fraser registered two goals and an assist. Defensemen Brenden Dillon tallied three assists and Jordie Benn notched a goal with an assist in the win. Fellow defender Dan Spang scored once and set up another in the lopsided game. The Stars netted two power-play goals within 15 seconds of each other during the first period and scored six goals in the first 40 minutes of play. Oklahoma City goalie Yann Danis (0-1-0) suffered the loss after stopping 15 of 19 shots before he was pulled 28 minutes in. David LeNeveu relieved him and finished with 10 of 13 shots in 31 minutes of play. Texas takes on the Houston Aeros on Friday, October 14th at 7:30 P.M. at Cedar Park Center.

Texas took an early 1-0 lead with a shot up high over Danis by defenseman Maxime Fortunus. Defenseman Brenden Dillon and center Ryan Garbutt each registered an assist at 1:07 of the first period. The Stars struck again at 11:33 to jump out to a 2-0 lead with a goal by left wing Matt Fraser. Right wing Ray Sawada and defenseman Dan Spang set up the five-on-three, power-play goal. Texas strengthened their lead to 3-0 just 15 seconds later with another five-on-three, power-play goal. Defenseman Jordie Benn went unassisted on the play as Texas outshot Oklahoma City 17-3 to close the first twenty minutes of play.

The Stars continued the scoring into the second period as Fraser netted his second goal of the night at 8:27. Dillon delivered his second assist for the 4-0 Texas lead. Texas defenseman Dan Spang put in the rebound at 10:36 to push the lead to 5-0. Fraser and center Travis Morin each assisted on the power play score. Less than two minutes later, center Tyler Arnason snuck a shot past LeNeveu with help from forwards Francis Wathier and Stephen Schultz, finishing the period with a 6-0 lead.

Texas left wing Luke Gazdic tipped in his first goal of the year at 4:17 of the third period. Dillon and Benn set up the power-play goal for the 7-0 final.

The Stars will take on the Houston Aeros on Friday, October 14th at 7:30 P.M. at Cedar Park Center. Friday is 3-2-1 night featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs. Texas travels to Oklahoma City on Saturday, October 15th for a 7:00 P.M. faceoff against the Barons.
