STARS OUTLAST RAMPAGE 5-4 IN SHOOTOUT
Texas Takes On San Antonio This Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (22-25-2-2, 48 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (27-21-2-1, 57 points) 5-4 in a shootout in front of 5,031 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Friday. Texas left wing Mike Hedden scored the only goal of the shootout, giving the Stars a one-goal win. Three Texas skaters had multi-point nights. Left wing Matt Fraser scored two goals on the night, while center Travis Morin and Angelo Esposito each added two assists. Left wing Francis Wathier and forward Stephen Schultz also scored for the Stars. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany (7-13-0) stopped 28 of 32 shots and all five shootout attempts as the Stars improved to 12-8-2-1 at home. Four Rampage skaters put up multi-point nights. Right wing Michal Repik, left wing Evan Barlow and forward Greg Rallo each scored a goal and added an assist. Center Jon Matsumoto added two assists for San Antonio. San Antonio goalie Dov Grumet-Morris (16-8-1) stopped 40 of 44 shots and four of five shootout attempts as the Rampage fell to 13-9-2-1 on the road. Texas hosts San Antonio again on Saturday, February 18th at 7:00 p.m.

The Rampage grabbed an early 1-0 lead at 3:38 of the first period. Right wing Michal Repik beat Beskorowany to the net with assists coming from forwards Jon Matsumoto and Evan Barlow. The Stars got on the board at 8:00 of the period as forward Stephen Schultz netted his eighth goal of the season on the power play. Centers Travis Morin and Angelo Esposito each added an assist, tying the game 1-1. San Antonio broke out to a 2-1 lead with a goal from left wing Evan Barlow at 14:49. Right wing Michal Repik and center Jon Matsumoto each registered an assist on the play.

Texas tied it 2-2 quickly at 2:49 of the second frame. Left wing Francis Wathier slapped the puck past Grumet-Morris on the power play. Right wing Colton Sceviour and center Scott Glennie each provided an assist on Wathier’s 11th goal of the year. San Antonio jumped out to a 3-2 lead with a goal from forward Greg Rallo at 6:07. Defenseman Nolan Yonkman and right wing Bill Thomas helped set up Rallo’s 12th tally of the season. The Stars answered with 5:05 remaining in the period as left wing Matt Fraser pushed the puck to the back of the net. Fraser’s 24th goal of the season went unassisted, closing out the second, 3-3.

The Stars took hold of their first lead of the night at 1:33 of the third period. Left wing Matt Fraser put up his second goal of the night to pull Texas in front 4-3. Centers Travis Morin and Angelo Esposito each supplied an assist on Fraser’s 25th goal of the year. The Rampage tied it late in the final frame as defenseman Roman Derlyuk snuck a shot past Beskorowany with 2:28 remaining. Forward Greg Rallo and center Mark Cullen each added an assist to force overtime.

Both teams skated to a scoreless overtime. Texas left wing Mike Hedden put in the lone shootout goal to lift the Stars over the Rampage 5-4.

The Stars will take on the Rampage again on Saturday, February 18th at 7:00 p.m, presented by the Texas Lottery Commission. The first 2,500 fans to the game will receive a team poster, compliments of ABC Home and Commercial Services. Saturday is also a State Farm Family Four Pack night consisting of four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs starting at $48. Texas will travel to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. to face the Barons.
