STARS OUTLAST HOGS IN SHOOTOUT, WIN 4-3
Texas travels to Chicago on Thursday at 7:00 PM



Rockford, IL – The Texas Stars (5-2-0-0, 10 points) defeated the Rockford IceHogs (4-3-0-1, 9 points) 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night in front of 2,096 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre. Stars center Mathieu Tousignant ended a nine-round shootout, beating Rockford's Hannu Toivonen to seal the road victory. The Stars continued their dominance at the Rockford MetroCentre, improving to 7-0-0-0 all-time.


Texas goalie Brent Krahn (4-2-0) snagged the victory by stopping 28 shots in regulation and seven of nine in the shootout. Texas defenseman Maxime Fortunus, as well as forwards Aaron Gagnon and Tristan King scored in regulation. Rockford goalie Hannu Toivonen (3-1-1) made 28 saves in regulation and six of nine in the shootout defeat. The Stars will play in Chicago at 7:00 pm on Thursday.


Texas opened the scoring in the first period, as rookie Tristan King scored his first pro goal 3:21 into the game. Stars forward Cody Chupp forced a turnover in the Rockford zone and snapped a pass to the slot for King, who rifled a shot past IceHogs goalie Hannu Toivonen for the 1-0 lead. Rockford countered with a power-play goal at 9:01 of the first period. IceHogs center Brandon Pirri beat Stars goalie Brent Krahn with a wrist shot from the right-wing circle for his second goal of the year and a 1-1 game. The Stars took the lead at 15:55 after a lengthy cycle in the IceHogs zone. Aaron Gagnon’s second goal of the year gave Texas a 2-1 lead. Forwards Colton Sceviour and Mathieu Tousignant assisted on the Stars second goal of the night.


In the second, Rockford tied the game with its second power-play goal of the game. IceHogs center Jeff Taffe finished off a centering pass from Kyle Beach at 2:41, tying the game 2-2.


In the third, the teams continued to trade goals. Texas pushed in front for the third time of the night at 7:45 of the period. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus blasted his first goal of the season past Toivonen for the 3-2 Stars lead. Rockford countered 1:13 later. Rookie forward Kyle Beach beat Brent Krahn for his second goal of the year and a 3-3 tie score 8:58 into the final frame.


The two teams would skate to a scoreless overtime and head to a shootout. Texas forwards Colton Sceviour, Mathieu Tousignant and Tomas Vincour scored in the nine-round shootout. IceHogs forwards Beach and Pirri both scored in the shootout for Rockford.



Texas travels to Chicago to face the Wolves on Thursday at 7:00 pm. The Stars return home Saturday, October 30th to face the Houston Aeros at 7:00 pm. The Texas Stars will host the first ever “Pink in the Rink Night” at Cedar Park Center presented by Cedar Park Regional Medical Center. The first 2,500 fans will receive a pink aluminum water bottle. Texas Stars players will also wear pink in the rink themed jerseys to raise breast cancer awareness. The jerseys will be auctioned off with 50 percent of the proceeds donated to the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Also, $2.00 of every individual and group ticket sold for the game will be donated to the Komen Austin Affiliate®. The State Farm Family Four pack is available for every Saturday home game at Cedar Park Center. Fans may purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $52.00.
