Stars Close Out Season With A 2-1 Loss In Houston
Aeros Punch Final Ticket to Calder Cup Playoffs With the Win

Houston, TX - The Texas Stars (31-40-3-2, 67 points) were defeated by the Houston Aeros (35-25-5-11, 86 points) 2-1 in front of 10,652 fans at Toyota Center on Sunday night. Aeros forward Joel Broda jammed in a rebound just 31seconds into the third period, pushing his club in front 2-1. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (20-17-6) stopped 28 of 29 shots, including all 14 shots by Texas in the third period, preserving the win and propelling the Aeros past Charlotte for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference on the final day of the AHL’s regular season. Defenseman Brenden Dillon scored the team’s lone goal and goalie Jack Campbell (4-7-0) stopped 31 of 33 shots in the loss.

After a scoreless first period of play, the Stars opened the scoring at 11:38 of the second period with a goal by defenseman Brenden Dillon. Jordie Benn had the lone assist on Dillon’s goal, his sixth tally of the season. Houston countered at 17:27 off a rebound goal by Kris Foucault, tying the game 1-1. Defenseman Chay Genoway and forward Jeff Taffe each had an assist on the game-tying goal.

Houston moved in front 2-1 just 31 seconds into the third period. Forward Joel Broda jammed a rebound in the Texas crease past goalie Jack Campbell. His 14th goal of the year gave the Aeros a one-goal lead they would not relinquish.
