Stars Announce Owen Newkirk as Director of Broadcasting
Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars announced on Friday that Owen Newkirk has joined the organization in the role of radio play-by-play announcer and Director of Broadcasting & Media Relations.

A native of Blue Hill, Maine, Newkirk has a wealth of experience in the American Hockey League, most recently serving as a color commentator for the Binghamton Senators (2010-2012). Previously he was the play-by-play voice and Director of Public Relations for the Adirondack Phantoms (2009-2010) and the Albany River Rats (2007-2009). Entering his tenth season of calling professional hockey, Newkirk, 31, was part of Binghamton's run to the 2011 Calder Cup Championship and was a member of the AHL Live broadcast team that called the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic in Worcester, Mass. Prior to his time in the AHL, he was Director of Broadcasting for the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals for four seasons (2003-2007). In addition to his hockey experience, Newkirk has also broadcast for the Albany Firebirds (af2 – 2007-2009) and Berkshire Black Bears (independent baseball – 2003).

Newkirk is a graduate of Haverford College.
