SELLOUT CROWD SEE STARS OUTLAST RAMPAGE 5-4
Stars Host Milwaukee on Thursday at 7:30 PM

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (37-23-3-4, 81 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (31-28-3-6, 71 points) 5-4 in front of a sellout crowd of 6,862 fans at Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Center Aaron Gagnon scored the eventual game-winning goal and added two assists for three points in the Stars dramatic victory over their in-state rival. Left wing Francis Wathier had two goals and an assist, as Texas moved to 21-11-2-2 at home this season. Stars goalie Brent Krahn (12-2-0) stopped 26 in the win, as Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman (15-16-2) suffered the loss with 20 saves. Forwards Ray Sawada and Travis Morin also scored for Texas, as the Stars improved to 6-4-0 against the Rampage this year. Texas will host Milwaukee at 7:30 PM on Thursday at Cedar Park Center.

San Antonio claimed a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 7:52 of the opening frame. Defenseman Shaun Heshka picked up a rebound in the Texas crease and beat Stars goalie Brent Krahn for his fifth goal of the year. Forwards Brett MacLean and Kyle Turris each had an assist on the game’s first goal. Texas countered at 9:18 of the first period, tying the game 1-1 on Ray Sawada’s sixth goal of the season. Left wing Francis Wathier set up the goal, passing the puck to the crease from behind the net. Sawada chipped the puck over the shoulder of San Antonio goalie Josh Torjdman.

In the second period, the teams traded goals, starting with Texas taking its first lead of the night just 2:16 into the period. Center Aaron Gagnon played the puck to the front of the San Antonio net and Francis Wathier tipped it in at 2:16. Right wing Greg Rallo also assisted on the power-play tally that put Texas in front 2-1. The Rampage countered with a power-play goal of its own to tie the game 2-2 at 10:57. Forward Joel Perrault blasted a one-timer from the left-wing circle, beating Brent Krahn for his 13th goal of the year and a 2-2 game.

Forward Gavin Morgan gave San Antonio a 3-2 lead at 7:01 of the third period. Morgan scored off a rebound of a Stu Bickel shot, scoring his seventh goal of the season. Texas countered to tie the game with 7:52 remaining in the final frame. Travis Mortin scooped a loose puck up in the San Antonio crease and backhanded in his 19th goal of the year for the 3-3 score. Wathier gave Texas a 4-3 lead, scoring his second of the night and 14th of the season at 14:57. The Stars extended their lead to 5-3 after Aaron Gagnon scored off a wrap around, becoming the first Texas Star to score 20 goals in a season. San Antonio’s Alexandre Picard scored his 22nd goal of the year at 17:37, bringing the Rampage within a goal at 5-4.

The Stars will host the Milwaukee Admirals on Thursday, March 18th at 7:30 PM. On Thursday, fans will have the opportunity to purchase a $20.00 terrace-level ticket, which includes All-You-Can-Eat popcorn, hotdogs, peanuts, soda and nachos. Texas will begin a 14-day and seven-game road trip in Rockford on Saturday, March 20th at 7:05 PM.
