Texas Returns Home Friday for the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff

Peoria, IL – The Texas Stars (31-21-3-4, 69 points) were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen (26-25-1-5, 58 points) 4-3 on Tuesday night at Carver Arena. Despite a late surge from Texas, Peoria was able to hold for its fourth win in the last 16 games, ending a six-game losing skid on home ice. Rivermen forward Chris Porter netted the eventual game-winning goal at 13:50 of the final period. Stars defenseman Maxime Fortunus, forwards Scott McCulloch and Aaron Gagnon each scored, as Texas finished the road trip 2-3-0-0. Peoria jumped on Texas early, scoring the first goal just 1:33 into the contest. Rivermen forward Pascal Pelletier snuck a wrist shot past the glove of Stars goalie Todd Ford. Pelletier’s tenth of the season was set up by Yan Stasny and gave Peoria a 1-0 lead. Texas countered to tie the game 1-1 at 9:04 of the period. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson played the puck to the Peoria net. Rivermen goalie Hannu Toivonen made the save, but lost the rebound. Stars center Aaron Gagnon pushed the loose puck into the Rivermen net for his 16th goal of the year. Stars rookie Colton Sceviour also had an assist on the tally.

Peoria claimed a second-period lead at 7:11 of the middle frame. Rookie Brett Sonne scooped up a rebound in the Texas crease and shuffled a shot past Todd Ford for his ninth goal of the year and a 2-1 Rivermen lead. The Stars countered to tie on a great individual effort for Scott McCulloch. The Texas winger attempted a wrap-around that was stopped by Peoria goalie Hannu Toivonen. McCulloch jammed at the puck and forced it in for his fifth goal of the year. Center Perttu Lindgren and right wing Mathieu Beaudoin assisted on the goal at 15:42, tying the game 2-2.

Peoria took a 3-2 lead at 5:42 of the third period on its second power play of the night. Peoria defenseman Jonas Junland snapped a shot from the point that was stopped by Ford. Rivermen forward Nicholas Drazenovic scored his 14th of the year off the rebound, giving Peoria the 3-2 lead. The Rivermen doubled their lead at 13:50 after Chris Porter squeezed a shot in off the skate of Ford for his tenth goal of the year and a 4-2 Peoria lead. The Stars closed the gap at 17:13, scoring a power-play goal to cut Peoria’s lead to 4-3. Lindgren sent the puck to the top of the right-wing circle for Maxime Fortunus.
