MONSTERS DOUBLE UP STARS 4-2
Texas to Play in Grand Rapids at 6:00 PM on Friday

Cleveland, OH - The Texas Stars (29-19-3-3, 64 points) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (28-22-3-5, 64 points) 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon in front of 7,510 fans at the Quicken Loans Arena. Lake Erie right wing Matt Ford scored twice and added an assist to pace the Monsters to their 12th win in the last 15 games. Monsters goalie Jason Bacashihua (12-13-3) stopped 29 of 31 Stars shots for the victory. Texas goalie Brent Krahn (6-6-0) stopped 32 of 36 shots in the defeat. Texas forwards Michael Neal and Dave Bonk each scored as the team slid to 13-11-0-1 on the road this season. Texas will play in Grand Rapids on Friday, February 18th at 6:00 PM (CT).

In the first period, Lake Erie opened the scoring with Matt Ford’s 14th goal of the season at 11:34. Forwards David Van der Gulik and Patrick Rissmiller each had an assist on the only goal of the opening frame.

In the second period, the Monsters extended their lead to 2-0 just 2:16 into the middle frame. Lake Erie’s Van der Gulik skated off the right-wing boards and slipped a shot through traffic for his eighth goal of the year. Ryan Stoa and Patrick Rissmiller each had an assist on the power-play goal. Texas countered immediately at 2:56, cutting the Monsters lead to 2-1. Michael Neal scored his third goal of the year off a rebound of a Guillaume Monast shot.

In the third period, Ford tipped a point shot by defenseman Kevin Montgomery for his second goal of the day and a 3-1 Lake Erie lead 1:46 into the final period. Monsters defenseman Joel Chouinard made it a 4-1 lead at 7:22, beating Krahn with a wrist shot for his fourth goal of the season. Texas pulled within a pair of goals with 5:27 left in regulation. Left wing Luke Gazdic found Dave Bonk in front of the Monsters net to finish off a two-on-one. Bonk’s second goal of the season finished the scoring at 4-2 in favor of Lake Erie.

Prior to the game, Texas added defenseman Guillaume Monast, who was recalled from the Idaho Steelheads, Texas’ ECHL Affiliate. Monast has played in four games for Texas over three separate recalls from Idaho. He registered his first AHL point with the Stars this season at Lake Erie. In 41 games for Idaho this year, Monast has one goal and seven assists while adding 22 penalty minutes. The Quebec native spent his rookie season with Idaho, setting up six goals in 68 games played, helping the Steelheads reach the 2010 Kelly Cup Finals. Monast attended training camp in Dallas and in Texas each of the last two years. The Texas Stars also announced that defenseman Severin Blindenbacher has been recalled by the Dallas Stars. He played in 26 games for Texas, posting nine assists and ten points.

The Texas Stars continue an eight-game road trip on Friday, February 18th at 6:00 PM (CT) at the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Stars return home to face the Oklahoma City Barons on Sunday, February 27th at 5:00 PM.
