HOUSTON DOWNS TEXAS 2-1 IN A SHOOTOUT

Stars Host Grand Rapids This Thursday

Houston, TX – The Texas Stars were defeated by the Houston Aeros 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night in front of 5,736 fans at the Toyota Center. Houston goalie Anton Khudobin stopped 23 of 24 in regulation and all five attempts in the shootout to give the Aeros the win. Texas goalie Matt Climie stopped 30 of 31 in regulation and three of four in the shootout loss. Stars’ defenseman Brad Lukowich scored the only Texas goal in regulation, as the Stars remain unbeaten in regulation in the last three games (2-0-1-0). Aeros’ forward Peter Zingoni scored in regulation and forward Jon DiSavatore scored the only goal in the shootout to give Houston the win. The Stars return home to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 15th at Cedar Park Center.

Houston scored the only goal of the opening period, a late tally to give the Aeros a 1-0 lead. Forward Peter Zingoni scored in the Texas crease, putting in his own rebound for the first goal of the night. Zingoni’s second goal of the season was set up by rookie Carson McMillan at 17:26.

Texas countered to tie the game in the first five minutes of middle period. Stars’ defenseman Brad Lukowich held the puck in at the left point and fired a slapshot towards the Houston net. The puck deflected off Aeros’ defenseman Jamie Fraser and past Houston goalie Anton Khudobin at 5:11. Lukowich’s first goal of the season was unassisted and tied the game 1-1.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the teams would head into a shootout. All five Stars attempts were denied by Houston goalie Anton Khudobin. Forward Jon DiSalvatore scored on the first Houston attempt. Texas goalie Matt Climie stopped the next three Houston shooters.

Texas returns home to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at Cedar Park Center on Thursday, October 15th at 7:30 pm. October 15th will be “Thirsty Thursday”, where Stars fans may purchase $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. The Stars will play in Houston again on Saturday, October 17th at 7:35 pm. Texas will begin a three-game home stand on Tuesday, October 20th at 7:30 pm against the Lake Erie Monsters.
