Stars Conclude Five-Game Road Swing in Chicago on Sunday

Rockford, IL – The Texas Stars (14-3-2-2, 32 points) defeated the Rockford Ice Hogs (9-10-2-1, 21 points) 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night in front of 3,424 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus scored his second goal of the night with 1:08 left in overtime to give Texas the victory. Texas goalie Brent Krahn (10-1-0-0) made 41 saves, securing his tenth straight victory. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson and right wing Sergei Koristin also scored, as Texas improved to 3-0-0-0 against Rockford this season. Rockford goalie Joe Fallon (4-4-2-0) stopped 24 Texas shots in the overtime defeat. Ice Hogs center Mark Cullen scored twice and assisted on a third goal in the losing effort. Texas will play the final game of five straight on the road, Sunday afternoon in Chicago at 3:00 pm.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period of play. Texas jumped out in front with the first goal of the night just 1:48 into the middle period. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin set up a one-timer for Sergei Korostin, who ripped his ninth goal of the season past Rockford goalie Joe Fallon for the 1-0 Stars lead. Texas would double its lead at 15:54. Defenseman Andrew Hutchinson blasted a slapshot off traffic and into the Ice Hogs net for his first goal of the season. Forwards Ray Sawada and Scott McCulloch each assisted on Hutchinson’s first goal of the season.

Rockford cut the Stars lead in half just 48 seconds into the final period as defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin beat Texas goalie Brent Krahn for his first goal of the year. The Stars regained their two-goal lead 48 seconds later, as defender Maxime Fortunus scored his first goal of the night at 1:36 of the third period. Beaudoin and Korostin each picked up an assist as Texas moved in front 3-1. Rockford roared back with a five-on-three power play. Ice Hogs center Mark Cullen scored from the high-slot at 6:04, cutting the Texas lead to 3-2. The Ice Hogs would tie the game 3-3 with only 2:41 left in regulation. Cullen scored his ninth goal of the year and second of the night to send the game to overtime.

With only 1:08 left in the extra frame, Fortunus joined the rush and tallied his third goal of the season at 3:52 of overtime, giving Texas the 4-3 victory. The Stars defender snapped a shot that dribbled in behind Rockford goalie Joe Fallon for the win. Winger Francis Wathier and center Aaron Gagnon both picked up an assist on the game-winning goal.

Texas concludes a five-game road swing Sunday, November 22nd in Chicago at 3:00 pm. Texas will return home to host the Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday, November, 25th at 7:30 and then again on Friday, November, 27th at 7:30 pm. Cedar Park Center will host College Discount Night, providing $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. Fans who present a college ID will receive a discount for either game. On Friday, the first 3,000 fans will receive a Texas Stars t-shirt.
