Dallas Stars Sign Jordie Benn and Ryan Garbutt To One-Year Contracts
Frisco, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed defenseman Jordie Benn and center Ryan Garbutt each to one-year, two-way contracts, putting them both under contract through the 2011-12 season.

Benn, 23, spent last season with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL), skating in 60 games and posting 12 points (2g, 10a) and 39 penalty minutes. He also appeared in one game for Texas during the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs. Benn played for the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League (CHL) in 2009-10, playing in 45 games and recording 18 points (9g, 9a) and 55 penalty minutes. During the playoffs the Victoria, British Columbia, native skated in 20 games, tallying 11 points (2g, 9a) and 12 penalty minutes.

Garbutt, 25, played the majority of 2010-11 with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, collecting 37 points (19g, 18a), 118 penalty minutes and a +27 rating in 65 games. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native also played 10 games for the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL, scoring 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points. Garbutt skated in 64 games for the Corpus Christi Icerays in 2009-10, accruing 50 points (22g, 28a). The 6-1, 185-pound center played four seasons at Brown University from 2005-2009, dressing in 116 games and posting 58 points (29g, 29a).
