Dallas Stars Recall Tom Wandell


Cedar Park, TX – The Dallas Stars announced on Monday that forwards Aaron Gagnon and Tomas Vincour, along with defensemen Severin Blindenbacher and Philip Larsen, have been assigned to the Texas Stars, Dallas’ American Hockey League affiliate. The Dallas Stars also announced that center Tom Wandell has been recalled from a conditioning stint with Texas. The Texas Stars announced that defensemen Dustin Friesen and Cody Lampl, as well as forwards Nino Musitelli, Judd Blackwater, Geoff Irwin and Tomas Sinisalo, have been released.

Gagnon returns to Texas where he enjoyed a breakout season, posting career highs and leading the team with 27 goals and 58 points in 78 games played. He also scored eight goals and totaled 12 points in 24 Calder Cup Playoff games. The 24-year old center made his NHL debut in 2009-10, playing in two games for Dallas last season. Gagnon was the first player in Texas Stars history to be recalled by an NHL team when Dallas summoned him for a one-game stint on October 16th, 2009.

Gagnon enters his fourth professional season with 42 goals and 57 assists for 99 career points in 188 professional games. The Quesnel, BC native was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the eighth round (#240 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Tomas Vincour will make his pro debut with Texas after spending the last three years in the WHL, splitting time with the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Vancouver Giants. In 171 WHL games, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound right wing scored 62 goals and totaled 123 points in his WHL career. The Dallas Stars drafted Vincour in the fifth round (#129 overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Blindenbacher will play his first season of North American hockey after playing the last nine years in Europe, mainly in the Swiss-A league. In 408 European pro games, the 27-year old defenseman scored 58 goals and totaled 167 points. Blindenbacher was originally drafted in the ninth round (#273 overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Larsen will also play his first full season of North American hockey after spending the last few seasons in Swedish Elite League. The 20-year old defenseman also played in two games for the Dallas Stars at the end of the 2009-10 season, picking up his first NHL assist. In 118 games for Vastra Fromunda, Larsen set up 25 goals and totaled 28 points. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the fifth round (#149 overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Texas Stars begin their second season in the AHL this coming Sunday at 3:00 pm in San Antonio at the AT&T Center. The game may be heard on ESPN Austin 1530-AM and at the Texas Stars website, www.texasstarshockey.com .

Texas will return home for the first regular season home game on Saturday, October 16th at 7:00 pm against San Antonio. The first 5,000 fans receive a Texas Stars 2010 Western Conference Championship “mini” banner. Also, the State Farm Family Four Pack is available for every Saturday home game at Cedar Park Center. Fans may purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $44.00. The Stars will also host the Peoria Rivermen on Sunday, October 17th at 5:00 pm at Cedar Park Center.
