CLIMIE, STARS SINK THE RIVERMEN 5-0
Texas Stars Host Grand Rapids on Tuesday at 7:30 PM


Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (29-15-3-4, 65 points) defeated the Peoria Rivermen (24-20-1-5, 54 points) 5-0 on Saturday night in front of 5,529 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars goalie Matt Climie (14-3-3) stopped all 41 Peoria shots, recording his third shutout this year. Texas winger Mathieu Beaudoin registered three points, scoring a goal and adding two assists to lift the Stars to a 15-7-1-2 record at home. Travis Morin and Scott McCulloch both recorded two points as the Stars beat the Rivermen for the second time this season. Texas will host Grand Rapids on Tuesday, February 9th at 7:30 PM.

Texas opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the first period for an early 1-0 lead. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin received a backhanded pass from Scott McCulloch in the slot for a shot between the legs of Peoria goalie Hannu Toivonen. Beaudoin has recorded 12 goals this season.

In the second period, Stars center Travis Morin scored off a rebound, increasing the Stars lead to 2-0. Scott McCulloch assisted on Morin’s 13th goal of the year which came at 5:04. At 9:44, Texas lifted its lead to 3-0 after winger Sergei Korostin snuck a shot past Toivonen from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Defenseman Dan Jancevski set up Korostin’s 12th goal of the season. A fourth Texas goal came at 16:40 of the middle period. Forward Mathieu Tousignant fired a shot from the left-wing circle, beating Toivonen on the gloveside. His second goal of the year was assisted by forwards Perttu Lindgren and Mathieu Beaudoin.

After stopping five of nine Stars shots, Peoria goalie Hannu Toivonen (9-10-2) was replaced by goalie Ben Bishop for the start of the third period. Stars right wing Raymond Sawada scored at 10:37, extending the Texas lead to 5-0. Sawada received a pass from forward Luke Gazdic and sent a backhanded shot past Bishop to seal the shutout victory over Peoria.

Texas continues a five-game home stand on Tuesday, February 9th with a game against the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:30 PM. On Tuesday, fans who bring a HEB brand non-perishable food item will receive $5.00 off their ticket price. The Stars conclude a five-game home stand with a pair of games with Chicago on Friday, February 12th at 7:30 PM and Saturday, February 13th at 7:00 PM. On Friday night, the first 3,000 fans receive a Texas Stars Car Flag and fans may purchase $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. The State Farm Family four-pack (four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs) is available for Saturday night.
