AEROS SOAR PAST STARS 5-2
Texas Travels to Oklahoma City on Saturday at 7:00 P.M.

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars (1-1-0-0, 2 points) were defeated by the Houston Aeros (2-0-0-0, 4 points) 5-2 in front of 5,361 fans on Friday night at Cedar Park Center. Texas center Travis Morin reached his 100th career point with Texas to surpass the previous team record of 98 points set by Greg Rallo. Morin registered an assist on both Texas’ power-play goals. Stars’ right wing Ray Sawada had a multi-point night with a goal and assist. Defenseman Brenden Dillon also netted a goal for the Stars. Houston center David McIntyre scored twice, while right wing Jed Ortmeyer notched a goal and an assist. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (1-1-0) stopped 26 of 30 shots faced in the loss. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (2-0-0) stopped 34 of 36 shots for the victory. Texas travels to Oklahoma City on Saturday at 7:00 P.M. to take on the Barons.

Texas made it on the board at 5:11 of the first period to take an early 1-0 lead. Defenseman Brenden Dillon marked his first goal of the season on the power play with help from forwards Ray Sawada and Travis Morin. Houston evened the score 1-1 late in the first period with 1:58 remaining. Center David McIntyre beat Bachman for his first goal of the season with help from forward Justin Fontaine.

Houston grabbed the lead at 4:19 of the second period as center Warren Peters snapped the puck top shelf. Peters went unassisted on the 2-1 tally. The Stars struck 1:37 later to tie the game 2-2 with a Sawada power-play goal. Defenseman Dan Spang and Morin each provided an assist. The Aeros pushed past the Stars at 11:15, taking a 3-2 lead. Forward Casey Wellman registered his third goal of the season with help from forwards Carson McMillan and Jarod Palmer.

The Aeros extended their lead to 4-2 just 1:54 into the final frame as McIntyre netted his second goal of the night. Defenseman Jeff Penner and right wing Jed Ortmeyer set up the play. Ortmeyer delivered an empty-net goal with one minute left. McMillan set up the goal for the 5-2 final.

Texas travels to Oklahoma City on Saturday, October 15th for a 7:00 P.M. faceoff against the Barons. The Stars return home on Thursday, October 20th to take on the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 P.M. Thursday is a 3-2-1 night with $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas and $1 hot dogs. Thursday is also H-E-B Food Drive Night, benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank. Bring eight or more non-perishable food items and receive a free ticket to the game.
