AEROS EDGE STARS 3-2 IN SHOOTOUT
Texas Hosts Oklahoma City on Sunday, October 9th at 5:00 P.M.

Cedar Park, TX – The Texas Stars were defeated by the Houston Aeros 3-2 in a shootout in a preseason game on Sunday night at Cedar Park Center. Houston goalie Matt Hackett stopped 25 of 27 Texas shots in regulation and stopped four of six shootout attempts for the win. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany stopped 19 of 21 shots in two periods of play. Billy Sauer finished the game with nine saves in regulation and he stopped three of six attempts in the shootout. Houston right wing Jarod Palmer notched the decisive goal in the shootout. Center Tyler Arnason scored the game-tying goal while defenseman Dan Spang scored the first goal for Texas. The Stars open the regular season on Sunday, October 9th at 5:00 P.M. against the Oklahoma City Barons at the Cedar Park Center.

Stars defenseman Dan Spang netted the first goal of the night at 3:36 of the first period. Defenseman Jace Coyle and forward Mike Hedden each had an assist on the power-play goal to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Aeros left wing Joel Broda tied it up 1-1 as he broke through traffic at 8:08. Defenseman Kris Fredheim and forward Justin Fontaine each provided an assist. Houston took the lead with 1:08 remaining in the first period as center Warren Peters tipped the puck past Beskorowany on the power play. Defenseman Tyler Cuma helped set up the goal to finish the first 20 minutes of play 2-1 in favor of Houston.

Texas evened the score to 2-2 as center Tyler Arnason slapped the puck past Houston’s Matt Hackett. Left wing Matt Fraser assisted on the play at 11:21 of the second period.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, Houston center Jarod Palmer scored the game-winning goal for the 3-2 shootout decision. The Aeros scored on three of six attempts, while the Stars scored on two of six.

The Texas Stars will host Opening Night at Cedar Park Center on Sunday, October 9th against the Oklahoma City Barons at 5:00 pm. Every fan who attends the first regular season game of the year will receive a Texas Stars magnetic schedule compliments of Austin Telco Credit Union.
